Dr. Daryl Sparks earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Meridian University in Petaluma, California and is currently a registered Psychological Associate. Her work is expressly trauma informed, with expertise treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and related conditions. She uses gold-standard therapy approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and is also trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dream Exploration, and Somatic Therapy. Dr. Sparks also teaches yoga and is registered with Yoga Alliance.
Dr. Sparks holds certificates in both sexual assault and domestic violence counseling for survivors. She has provided therapy for children, adolescents and adults, including work with families in child protective services, forensic populations and those who struggle with self-harm, suicidal ideation, or suicide attempts. She treats mood and personality disorders, trauma and PTSD, substance use disorders, and other diagnoses to help clients maintain recovery and begin to realize their short and long-term goals. Ultimately, she sees each client as far more complex and resilient than a diagnosis could encompass. She is adamant that a traumatized person, having endured especially disorienting events in their lives, requires healthcare workers to be knowledgeable about the intensity and chronicity of their symptoms. She has years of experience providing care targeted at regulating emotional overwhelm and preventing mental and physical exhaustion.
Dr. Sparks provides a non-judgmental, safe space for clients to define, process, and address their experiences. Her desire is to facilitate from a humanistic perspective, witnessing her clients with deep respect. She lives and advocates for integrating all levels of human experience for the purpose of healing. This is evidenced in her somatic trauma-related research as well as her therapy room. Therapy with Dr. Sparks will address your mind, body, soul, living environment, imagination, vocation, and relationship dynamics to optimize your resilience.
